Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

  • Where do you live?

Are there parks or playgrounds in your neighborhood? Stores? Libraries?

Who keeps your neighborhood clean from litter? Do you help keep it clean?

Let’s draw a map of your neighborhood and add in homes, parks and stores which make it up and create a collage.

  • Build it.

We will use brightly colored single-use plastic, which would otherwise be polluting our neighborhoods, as our material, and glue sticks and pieces of recycled cardboard.

When the kids finish creating their “block”, all the blocks can be put together into one BIG neighborhood for display in the classroom. The neighborhood can be taken apart block by block to be sent home with each child.

  • Prepare for it.

In preparation for the workshop the kids are encouraged to bring some soft single-use plastic packaging - like shopping bags, wrapping from paper towels and toilet paper, bread bags from home, and broken down cardboard as well.

  • Great for all!

This project is easy to vary in complexity from kindergarten to high school!
