Bedford Road School in Pleasantville, NY participated in the Single-Use Plastic Art Project in spring of 2020. Despite the project interruption by the covid-19 pandemic, there was so much enthusiasm and great work from the kids and the teachers, that there is plenty of beautiful artwork to share.

After a presentation by the visiting artist, each grade level spent about two weeks collecting single-use plastic in their home and bringing it into the classroom. They collected not only single-use plastic bags from supermarkets and stores, but also single-use packaging from different goods that come into their homes, such as paper towels, tissues and candy. Once the collection period was done, the visiting artist came to the school and created artwork from the collected materials with the children, with the help of a few parent volunteers.

All the hard work was supposed to culminate in a full school exhibit of single-use plastic art show which was to celebrate all the newly minted young climate change activists. Alas in September the artwork will be returned to the students. But the banners made by the 4th graders will be displayed at the school.
